Grenville Cottingham was born in 1943 and studied art at Exeter College of Art (1960-1963) and Liverpool College of Art (1963-1964). He paints marine and landscape scenes in both oil and watercolour. Grenville portrays a strong statement of space in his compositions, and his use of colour and tone captures the spontaneity of the moment.
He has travelled widely over the course of his career depicting the landscape of Tuscany, Provence, South West Ireland, India and many parts of the British Isles, including the Isle of Wight. Grenville is a regular visitor to the Island and first exhibited on the Isle of Wight in Bembridge about 15 years ago.
His work is highly sought after and he has a number of commitments to London galleries. Grenville’s work appears in many private and public collections including P&O plc, Securities Investment Board, Marine Society, Mutual Insurance and the Royal Artillery, Woolwich.
