Roland Batchelor was born in London, father of the artist Bernard Batchelor. Started to paint as a child, but his father insisted that he pursue a steady career so he worked in the Civil Service from 1905-49.
In his spare time studied and painted, learning from George Morrow at Putney School of Art and after World War I service from Harry Watson at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art. After retirement he had invaluable tuition at the City and Guilds of London School with A R Middleton Todd. Regular exhibitor at RA and RWS. Centenary show held at Catto Gallery in 1989. In 2003 New Academy Gallery showed Roland Batcherlor’s Etchings froom a series of plates produced in 1936 and published by the Gallery in the 1908s. Victoria & Albert Museum holds his work.
